Kerry Katona said she was mortified by her recent drunken antics after being filmed rolling around an airport in Gran Canaria.
The Warrington singer, a former member of Liverpool girlband Atomic Kitten, spoke to This Morning after she was pictured outside an airport rolling around with her trousers down.
At the weekend, Kerry once again hit the headlines after being snapped kissing a convicted murderer Kevin Lane – but has today insisted she knew nothing of his criminal background.
She said: “I’m not in a relationship, I’m not dating no convicted killers, I’ve been single since my husband… I can’t do background checks on everyone that helps me to cross the road.
“Unfortunately a journalist blew that completely out of proportion and you can clearly see in the pictures that I’m linking my friend, but they’ve cut her off, and it’s a story. The public want me to do well, but the press, because I have been doing so well, it’s not good for them…”
Kerry, who cringed as she was shown the infamous pictures of her on the floor with her trousers down, added: “I went away for a few days, the first time without my children, we’ve had a bit of a rough year, and I was on the plane, we got up at four in the morning, we had no food, and I hit the champagne as one does on holiday… and as soon as the fresh air hit me – I was just desperate to get a suntan!”

She added, “What you can’t see [on the footage] there were so many other people in bikini tops… and I do look at it and think ‘Oh God, Kerry – you fool’… this isn’t something I do all the time, I got too drunk and I’m all or nothing. I am embarrassed and mortified by it, but I got too drunk, nobody was hurt. The only thing that was hurt was my pride.”
Kerry, who was wearing a long white skirt with a nude top and her hair in an up-do, joked about her notorious This Morning appearance in 2012 – where she was accused of being drunk after getting confused and slurring her words.
She said: “I don’t go out all the time. I have no childcare, I have five children, I’m doing this on my own… and I got on that plane and I was so giddy. And I went a bit too far, I get that.
“And I think what you’re seeing there is pretty well behaved compared to a lot of mothers I know who go out on a regular basis getting drunk. And my children weren’t with me and I don’t feel like I’ve done anything wrong. I’m not back on drugs, I’m still clean… I let my hair down. I’ve had a really tough year….
“People do worry, and as soon as I saw [footage] I thought ‘oh no, Phillip Schofield’s going to have me back on his couch! That’s it, I better not be slurring! My TV dad’s going to shout at me again!’… but I get that [why people might have been worried], I’ve got really loyal fans, and clearly everyone thought ‘oh here we go again’.”
The 35-year-old also paid tribute to her ‘best friend’ David Gest who was found dead in a London hotel on Friday.
She said: “David Gest was my bestest friend in the whole wide world for the last 10 years… Gobsmacked. David was like Peter Pan… he was an 18 year old in a 62 year old body. I’ve had some of my most amazing memories and experiences because of David. He took me to Memphis for 12 days… and the shock of losing David, it’s been a massive shock to us all.
“I’m absolutely and utterly devastated and I keep thinking he’s going to ring up and say it’s a joke… he’d ring me at least twice a week.”
